New Delhi: Congress leader Harish Rawat slammed yoga guru Ramdev and called him mentally bankrupt as he compared former prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. He said, "Jawaharlal Nehru was one of the founders of the Indian nation. Ramdev is a fool to compare Nehru with Narendra Modi." 
 
He added, "Narendra Modi cannot wipe the stain of the 2002 Gujarat riots." 
 
The remarks came after Ramdev hit out at the Congress party for targeting Modi and calling him 'maut ka saudagar'. Ramdev said if Modi is branded 'maut ka saudagar', then Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a bigger mass murderer. 
 
He said, "When Sikhs were being killed on the streets of Delhi, the Prime Minister didn't notice. If that man is calling Modi a mass murderer, then Nehru is a worse mass murderer. 
 
But Manmohan Singh was not a part of the government or politics in 1984 when anti-Sikh riots broke after the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. 
 
The remarks came two days after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accused Modi of presiding over the 2002 Gujarat riots. While addressing a press conference on Friday, the Prime Minister said, "Without discussing the merits of Narendr Modi, I sincerely believe that it will be disastrous for the country to have Modi as the prime minister. If by strong prime minister, you mean that you preside over with mask massacre of innocent citizens in the streets of Ahmedabad, that is the major of strength. I do not believe that sort of strength this country needs, least of all in its prime minsiter." 
 
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had called Modi 'maut ka saudagar' during the 2008 Gujarat Assembly election campaign and reiterated it during the 2012 campaign. 
 
Senior BJP leaders including Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh shared the dais with Ramdev and attacked the Congress on a host of issues.
