The Bharatiya Janata Party in Haryana did not have a strong local leadership, but achieved a massive surge in support after Prime Minister Modi campaigned in the state. BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar from Karnal said, "The Indian National Lok Dal is now out of power for a third consecutive term. With its top leaders in jail and the party no where close to forming the government, staying relevant in the political sphere will now be a challenge, even though they have won more seats than the Congress."
