New Delhi: The Congress has questioned Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's advice to the Comptroller and Auditor General not to sensationalise its work.

Jaitley on Wednesday had asked the CAG not to sensationalise its findings to get into headlines. "Auditor should be conscious of the fact that he is reviewing a decision that has already been taken. Have the fair procedures been followed? He doesn't have to sensationalise. He doesn't have to get into the headlines," Jaitley said at annual conference of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

The Congress expressed surprise over Jaitley's comment saying that it was the Bharatiya Janata Party which had praised the CAG earlier for unearthing the 2G specturm case. Party leader Manish Tewari said that the Congress doesn't know whether to laugh or cry at Jaitley's statements.

Other opposition parties also slammed Jaitley for his comment. CPM leader Nilotpal Basu said, "I am not surprised, it is to the credit of Mr. Jaitley when the coffin scam was unearthed by CAG, he said we need adjustment generals, not CAG, completely undermining the constitutional authority of CAG."
