New Delhi: The Opposition members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), which is examining the 2G spectrum allocation scam, will meet Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar at 2 pm to seek removal of committee's chairperson PC Chacko.
Earlier, the JPC meet, which was scheduled for Thursday, was postponed with Chacko saying the next date will be finalised after consulting other members. The meeting is likely to take place next week, he added.
Chacko's decision came after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day following a request from MPs to mourn the death of Trinamool Lok Sabha MP from Howrah Ambika Banerjee, who died earlier on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the Congress is brainstorming to resolve the deadlock over the JPC draft report on the 2G scam . The Congress core group including Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and Chacko met to come up with a strategy.
The Opposition has been miffed since the contents of the draft report were allegedly leaked to the media. The JPC has reportedly given a clean chit to the Prime Minister and Chidambaram despite former telecom minister A Raja claiming that Manmohan Singh was aware of all the decisions taken in connection with the allocation of 2G spectrum.
The BJP, Left Front and the DMK are also reportedly planning to force a vote on the JPC report. The Samajwadi Party, however, remains non-committal saying that it will go against the government if accused Raja is not allowed to depose before the JPC.
