Chennai: A day after she was named by the CBI as a co-conspirator in the 2G scam, there is now a real possibility of Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi being arrested by the CBI.
So will the investigations hitting the DMK chief's daughter affect congress DMK ties?
Despite a high level executive committee meeting being called on Wednesday to discuss the political fall out party sources tell CNN-IBN that the DMK cannot afford to and will not make any move that can jeoprodise it's alliance with the Congress - at least until the results of the assembly elections are announced on May 13.
"We are equal partners...Kanimozhi will come out clean," said DMK leader TKS Elangovan.
The party is likely to issue a statement in support of Kanimozhi and reiterate it's backing for her in public, like it did when former telecom minister A Raja was arrested. But within the family that controls the party sections have been trying to isolate Kanimozhi.
Karunanidhi's elder son and fertiliser minister MK Azhagiri and textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran have been pushing the party to distance itself from the 2G scam accused.
So, while the party may back her in public with statements, Kanimozhi may now have to fight the 2 G battle on her own.
Party sources are categorically stating that there would be no trouble to the alliance for the moment, but the embarrassment from the 2G scam continues. Opposition parties led by Jayalalithaa are aggressively demanding that others in the Karunanidhi family be named as well in the case. The real political fallout of the scam though will be known on of May 13.
