Lucknow: Youth Congress leader Nishant Patel, an aide of party MP Rahul Gandhi, was found injured and “dazed” on a Lucknow road on Tuesday a day after he went missing under mysterious circumstances from a hotel in the adjoining Hardoi district.
Patel, the 35-year-old son of senior Congress leader and former Gujarat Minister Hasmukh Patel, has been hospitalized after he was found near the Buddheshwar crossing in the state capital.
"Patel was found by a passer-by, Ram Prakash on the Mohaan Road, where he was walking in a dazed condition," said Rajiv Krishna, Lucknow Range Deputy Inspector General.
"Patel waved out to Ram Prakash who was driving towards the Hardoi road. When Ram Prakash stopped, Nishant asked him for a lift up to Hardoi," he said.
"However, finding him dazed, Ram Prakash made him sit down and offered to get him some water. Meanwhile, his (Patel's) phone rang and no sooner than he disclosed his name, Ram Prakash promptly recognised him, as he had read about the missing Congressman in newspapers."
Ram Prakash informed the police, who took Patel to the Trauma Centre at the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University.
Police said that Nishant was staying at room Number 104 of Utsav Hotel in Hardoi, 100 kms from Lucknow, since July 2 and was last seen on Monday morning and could not be traced since then.
"Both his mobiles and other belongings are present in the hotel room," said police officials. Four members of the hotel staff, including the manager, have been questioned by the police.
Youth Congress state returning officer Arvind Chaudhary said: "We are so relieved that Nishant is back. It is too early to say anything about how he reached Lucknow. Right now he needs proper care and once he is normal, we will know what happened to him and how did he disappear from Hardoi to find his way to Lucknow, almost 100 km away."
Patel is a member of Rahul Gandhi's youth team and was hand-picked by him as local returning officer for electing Youth Congress officer bearers.
