Faizabad: Narendra Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial nominee, has courted another controversy while addressing a rally in Faizabad, a town less than five kilometres from Ayodhya. Modi addressed the rally with the backdrop of the image of lord Ram.
He also invoked Ram's name while making a pitch for the BJP. He said that the people of Faizabad should allow a lotus to bloom in the "land of Shri Ram".
The Uttar Pradesh Election Commission sources have said that the EC has sought a report from the Faizabad office on Modi's rally. Usage of religious symbols is banned during election campaigns.
Modi further courted controversy by saying that even Mahatma Gandhi invoked the name of Ram. Modi said that when Mahatma Gandhi was asked about his idea of an ideal nation, he said that there should be Ram Rajya. Modi said that Mahatma meant development for all.
