Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday witnessed uproarious scenes as an argument between the Speaker, Mohammad Akbar Lone, and PDP MLA Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain got heated.
The speaker lost his cool amid the ruckus and hurled abuses at the Opposition leader. The Opposition leader in turn hurled a fan towards him.
Later the Speaker apologised for losing his temper in the Assembly.
Following the uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House for half-an-hour.
Later, the Speaker did not allow the Opposition, PDP, to move an adjournment motion in the House for discussion over the mysterious death of a National Conference worker in police custody.
Reacting to the chaos in the Assembly, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti alleged that the Chief Minister could go up to any extent to silence the Opposition, and the members were scared.
Slamming the Speaker over his act, she said, "The CM is allegedly involved in a murder. What can you expect from a Speaker? He has always been biased."
"Speaker abuses us, uses derogatory language. This is the way Speaker behaves."
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, however, strongly rebutted allegations of wrongdoing in the custodial death of the NC worker. He said he would sue those who accused him of murder.
The top brass in the Jammu and Kashmir government meanwhile defended Omar. They even released a CCTV camera video showing Saeed Yousuf leaving the CM's house to show he didn't die there.
Yousuf died in police custody after the CM handed him over to the crime department. He had collected nearly Rs one crore from two people promising them a ministerial berth and a place in the state legislative council.
