Maharashtra: Onion prices drop by Rs 10 in wholesale market

Nashik: After weeks of rising onion prices in the Indian market, the wholesale price in Lasalgaon in Nashik has come down by Rs 10, holding at about Rs 33-36 per kg. Lasalgaon in Nashik is one of the major centres of onion production in India.

It is believed that a drop in onion prices in India's largest wholesale market will have a favorable impact on the prices across the country also. Till last week, the prices for onions which were placed around Rs 45-47 in the wholesale market rose up to Rs 80 per kg by the time they reached the retail market.

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told Parliament on Monday that the crop condition is good, but the supplies have been hit due to rainfall. It is expected that the onion prices will drop further by August end and will stabilise when new crop comes in.
