Jaitley phone tapping case: Anurag Singh confesses

Mar 03, 2013 06:58 AM IST Politics Politics

New Delhi: Private detective Anurag Singh, an accused in the Arun Jaitley phone tapping case, confesses to investigators, says he wanted to build contacts within the BJP to get out of the 2006 phone tapping scandal.

Singh told investigators he wanted to use his knowledge of cyber security and forensics to his advantage. Police, however, have rubbished his claims.

Sources say he had taken out call records of at least 30 people including top politicians. Investigators feel considering the large number of BJP leaders he was after, it could be the job of an insider.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal is likely to be questioned but the investigators have yet not named any mastermind.

Anurag Singh was earlier involved in tracking the call records of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
