Buddha violates EC order, won't remove Tagore photos

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee refused to remove the photos of Rabindranath Tagore and Subhash Chandra Bose after reports of a notice by the Election Commission.

The EC had said pictures of all political functionaries should to be removed from public offices and only pictures of Gandhi, the President and Governor should be allowed, it now says that the notice was misinterpreted.

"Under no circumstances would the photographs of Rabindranath, Subhash Chandra Bose would be removed from Writers' Buildings," said Bhattacharjee.

The Election commission as now come out with a clarification.

"There is a misunderstanding that the photographs of national poets, national personalities, historic personalities of the past being removed. Today we have issued a clarification," said Deputy Election Commissioner R Balakrishnan.

Bhattacharjee has already removed his own photographs from the display boards of Writers Building.
