Solapur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Pune-Solapur National Highway in Maharashtra. Modi also took the opportunity to attack Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who had earlier in the day, taken a snipe at the PM, saying that Maharashtra was the number one state in manufacturing and Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and that it attracted the maximum number of investors.
Chavan had also complained that electricity plants were not working due to a shortage of coal and gas.
Modi, who also inaugurated a Rs 4,000 crore port-based SEZ at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai, hit right back at the Chief Minister, asking why he had not raised the issue earlier.
"Chavan ji is right that there is shortage of gas and coal and because of that, electricity plants are not working. But why is he raising the issue now and not earlier?" Modi said.
