New Delhi: Former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu will file his nomination for the Amritsar Lok Sabha bypoll on Wednesday. 
 
The Supreme Court stayed Sidhu's conviction and sentence on Tuesday. 
 
The SC order came as a shot in the arm for both Sidhu and the BJP, who were waiting with bated breath to find out how the SC decides his fate. 
 
But this is an interim measure that will allow the cricketer turned politician to campaign for the BJP in Amritsar. 
 
Sidhu can now contest the Parliament bypolls in Amritsar, a seat he himself vacated after he was convicted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 1. 
 
Meanwhile, the Congress is fielding Surindra Singla against Navjot Singh Sidhu. Singla says Sidhu is no threat to him in the Amritsar bypolls. 
 
"I don't face any challenge. I have to face a non-descript politician. He is a cricketer and a showman. Politics is a serious business of policy making which he is not fit to be in," he says. 
 
The HC had found Sidhu guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for the death of 65-year old Gurnam Singh in 1988. 
 
But the Supreme Court said the FIR was unclear as to who dealt the blow to the victim. 
 
The court also noted that Sidhu resigned from his Lok Sabha seat soon after the conviction.
