'No decision on SL before consulting with DMK'

New Delhi: After DMK Chief Karunanidhi threatened to pull out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government over the Sri lankan Tamils issue, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid said no decision will be taken before consulting the DMK. India has asked Sri Lanka to investigate allegations of human rights violations and incidents involving loss of human life during the final stages of the conflict.

"Let us first take the decision. DMK is our ally. We will take their opinion into consideration before taking the final decision," said Khurshid.

India has also called for speedy resettlement and rehabilitation of Tamils. The DMK wants an independent international probe into human rights violations in Sri Lanka.

Significantly, at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, India had asked the island nation to investigate allegations of human rights violations but shielded away from seeking an international probe - as demanded by DMK's Karunanidhi. The periodic review comes ahead of next week's crucial resolution to be moved by the US.
