Swamy seeks sanction to prosecute Karunanidhi

Chennai: The battle between the Janta Party President Subramanian Swamy and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has intensified. Swamy has submitted a petition to Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, seeking sanction for prosecution of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for discretionary land allotments to former chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan's aide.

"This is a petition for discretionary land allotment under quota of Tamil Nadu Housing Society. I have records mentioning misuse of power to allot lands to people who don't deserve it. Following Ashok Chavan, I demand Karunanidhi's resignation," Subramanian Swamy said in Chennai on Monday.

Swamy has also accused Karunanidhi of being involved in the 2G spectrum allocation scam following which the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK
chief issued a legal notice on Sunday to the Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy, demanding retraction of his 'statement' linking him to the scam within 24 hours.

Karunanidhi, in his notice to Swamy, dismissed the allegation as "motivated by your personal malice, political rivalry and clamour for cheap publicity."

The notice issued through counsel PR Raman comes a day after Swamy's plea in a Delhi court for continuance of his private complaint in the case, seeking to claim that it covered a wider canvas of "involvement" of the DMK chief.

Meanwhile, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa backed Swamy for accusing Karunanidhi in 2G scam case.

"I back Subramanian Swamy's demand to name Karunanidhi as a co-accused in 2G-scam case. Raja is only a pawn. Kingpins have to be brought to book. With SC monitoring the probe, I believe that justice will prevail and culprits will be brought to book," said Jayalalithaa in a statement.
