Kolkata: Two days after violent clashes between the Trinamool and the Congress student union members claimed the life of a police sub-inspector and amidst allegations that TMC minister Firhad Hakim was shielding the accused, the Bengal governor MK Narayanan on Thursday said that ministers must not interfere in such cases.

"If Mr Firhad Hakim is protecting the guilty, he has no business," he said, while speaking to reporters over the incident. He also said that the law and order situation in the state was a major concern.

Narayanan and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee separately visited the residence of Tapas Choudhary, the policeman who died, after a fight over student union elections at Hari Mohan College in the city.
