Gurgaon: Senior Congress leader VC Shukla, who was injured in the deadly Naxal attack that took place in Chhattisgarh on Saturday and claimed over 24 lives, is stable but critical, his doctors at Medanta hospital said on Monday. He is on ventilator, but has gained consciousness, Dr Naresh Trehan, cardiovascular doctor at Medanta, said.
The doctors said the 84-year-old has successfully undergone a surgery at the hospital. He will remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for sometime, they added.
"The intestinal injury is a cause of concern and he underwent a surgery for that. He had three gunshot wounds - two in the chest and one in the abdomen," the doctors said in a health update. "We are hopeful that there will improvement (in his condition) in sometime," they added.
Shukla was injured, along with 27 others, in the Naxal attack. However, Congressman and founder of the anti-Naxalite movement, Salwa Judum, Mahendra Karma and state party president Nand Kumar Patel were among those who were killed.
