No crisis in BJP, all doubts will be clear soon: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi: Amidst reports of infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party over Lok Sabha tickets, party leader Venkaiah Naidu has said that there is no crisis. Rubbishing reports of a rift, Naidu said that all doubts will be clear by Thursday evening.

"There is no crisis, who told you Advani is not keen on contesting from Gandhinagar? Has Advani said anything negative so far, we have discussed it," Naidu said.

He said that the BJP will make a formal announcement by the evening. "No problem at all, we are moving forward with unity. By evening all doubts will be clear, wait for a formal statement," Naidu said.

"Advani is the most senior leader of the party, he will decide in the interest of the party. It is wrong to attribute motives to Advani," Naidu added.

However, the challenge for the BJP comes not just from Advani, but also from Jaswant Singh. Jaswant has reportedly warned the party that he will fight the Lok Sabha elections as an Independent if he is not allowed to contest from the Barmer seat in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje reportedly wants a retired Army official, Colonel Sona Ram, to fight from there.

Jaswant is the second BJP leader to express his displeasure over seat distribution after Advani said that he wants to contest from Bhopal instead of Gandhinagar, which he has represented five times in Lok Sabha elections.

A bevy of senior party leaders, including BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj, met him at his residence early on Thursday to persuade him to contest from the Gujarat capital.
