The President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, have reached an agreement to fortify the defense ties between their countries. The agreement was made during President Marcos' visit to Japan, a neighboring country. This move towards defense cooperation comes in response to the increasing aggression from China in the region. In addition to defense, Kishida and Marcos have reportedly agreed to enhance cooperation in the areas of economy and cybersecurity. A joint statement from the two leaders confirmed Japan's ongoing support for the Philippine coast guard in enhancing its capabilities.
