China has reportedly unveiled a new short-range air defence system to counter enemy UAVs. Known as “SHORAD” systems, they are seen as vital for defending against unmanned technology in future warfare. Developing short-range air-defence systems to detect low-flying aircraft like drones has become a key focus for China. Chinese defence firms CSGC* and Norinco are involved in developing many homegrown weapon systems showcased at this year’s Zhuhai Air Show. One of the most eye-catching systems at the air show was the Type 625E AA Gun Missile Integrated Weapon System.
