Description: The US forces are likely to return to a vast former military base in the Philippines after a three-decade-long absence. In November, reports emerged that the US military is likely to return to Subic Bay amid heightened superpower rivalry in the South China Sea. The site is being considered as a new location under the US-Philippines Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

Speaking to DD after Budget 2023, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said, "Old  regime of taxation is complicated and the new regime will be helpful and benefit the people.  We have raised  Tax  slabs and surcharges also have been reduced in new regime. The new  system will be default system but any one can opt for old  system."

While the Indian markets instantly cheered Budget 2023, Sensex settled 158 points up at 59,708.08 while Nifty ended 45 points down at 17,616.

"Salaried class and pensioners including Family pensioners for whom I propose to extend the Benefit of Standard deduction to the new tax regime . Each salaried person with an income of Rs 15.5 lakhs or more to benefit by Rs 52,500," says FM Nirmala Sitharaman.
